Radionuclide metrology laboratories

IRMM carries out primary radioactivity measurements of high accuracy with specialised instrumentation.

The radionuclide laboratory has instrumentation for direct counting (4πβ-γ- coincidence methods, 4πβ-counting, 4πβγ-sum counting, 4π-CsI detector for e-, β, γ, X-rays) and counting at a defined solid angle for α and X-rays. Relative measurement methods available are liquid scintillation counting and ionisation chambers. IRMM has also developed equipment for source preparation by a source dryer.

The measurement laboratories are complemented by facilities for handling highly active samples.

Low background γ measurements can be performed in the underground laboratory ( HADES).
