IRMM has developed unique high technology equipment and expertise for the
efficient processing of a large variety of biological and food reference
materials.
The reference materials laboratory is one of the largest and most
sophisticated in the world. It hosts a unique multi-functional and flexible
production laboratory, with cryo-grinding and freeze drying equipment, high
purity milling and levitation melting devices. This laboratory can quickly
adapt its production facilities to cater for urgent requests.
Special clean chambers allow the processing of potentially hazardous materials
mainly used in the biotechnological field, while protecting both the staff and
the material from contamination.
A new storage building was inaugurated in October 2005.
