Reference materials storage

Storage of reference materials is essential for preserving the integrity of the samples. As a part of each reference material production cycle, the study of stability is conducted. Based on that study the appropriate storage conditions for each material are defined.

The wide range of materials provided by IRMM, calls for a wide range of storage conditions. For example, easily flammable materials need to be stored apart from other materials, and some others need to be stored at room temperature in the dark. An increasing number of sensitive materials also need to be kept in cooled storage rooms.

IRMM has facilities to store materials at +18, +4, -20, -40 and -70°C. For storing extremely delicate products IRMM operates tanks with liquid nitrogen where samples are kept above the liquid nitrogen surface at a temperature of approximately –160 °C.
