NUSIMEP-2 Uranium isotopic abundances in dry uranium nitrate samples

The measurements of small isotopic variations of uranium in a sample of restricted size (approximately 100 ng of uranium as dry uranyl nitrate) were the subject of this campaign. The participating laboratories received certified test samples with undisclosed isotopic compositions, which they were asked to analyse using the laboratory's routine procedures.

In this campaign four samples with enrichments ranging from depleted to low-enriched uranium were available for measurement. The enrichment (235 U / 238U) was of primary concern for the measurements, but the abundance of the minor isotopes were also certified and these values were requested to be measured by the participants if possible. The isotopic mixtures were prepared from certified materials.

Results submitted by participants were displayed against the certified values, and also in relation to methods or instrumentation used, self-estimated level of experience or status of accreditation.
